Dear Residents and Families:

As you are aware from our calls and in-person communications to you all over the past months, we have had additional positive cases for our residents and our staff.  We currently stand at two currently open positive cases for residents and one for staff.

The positive staff member remains quarantined in their home and positive residents remain isolated in their rooms receiving cares from dedicated staff under heightened infection control procedures.  This quarantine and isolation will continue for a period of time recommended by CDC and local health guidance depending on the circumstances of each individual case. COVID-19 Update

October 23, 2020

Dear Residents and Families,

As I am sure many of you are aware, the country is experiencing another increase in reported COVID cases.  We have just learned that one of our staff members has tested positive for COVID.

The staff member was last in the community on October 16, 2020.  The staff member started experiencing symptoms on October 19th and stayed home until testing was undergone.  We have every reason to believe the employee was exposed outside of our community.  When the staff member was in the building, all appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) was used and good social distancing was practiced when not providing care.  Given these factors, the CDC guidelines indicate the risk to our residents is lower. Restritction Reopen Announcement

June 5, 2020

Dear Residents and Families,

We appreciate your cooperation and support during these unprecedented times. Social distancing and other virus-related restrictions have been difficult for all of us during this pandemic, but it has helped us in our infection control within our community. Sea Cliff currently has no COVID-positive staff or residents.

As some states begin to “reopen,” our family members and residents understandably want to know when community restrictions (e.g., visitation, communal activities, leaving the community) may be lifted. Senior living facilities are some of the most COVID-vulnerable places that exist, and will likely be among the last to “reopen”. As a result:

  • Current visitation restrictions will continue. However, we have begun allowing scheduled visits on the front porch with the following restrictions:
    • Only 2 visitors at a time;
    • Masks and gloves must be worn at all times;
    • Visitors must be screened prior to the visit;
    • Social distancing must be followed at all times;
    • No touching or eating food during visits is permitted; and
    • All visits must be scheduled in advance and are limited to 30 minutes.
  • Social distancing practices within the facility like no communal dining, no large gatherings of residents, no external trips/activities, etc., will continue; and
  • Any residents leave the Sea Cliff campus for treatment at an external healthcare provider or for any other reason will still be required to be quarantined upon his/her return.

We will follow the lead of the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Center for Disease Control (CDC); and as part of the executive branch, they will likely follow the lead of the Trump administration.

In President Trump’s “Opening Up America Again” plan—which is similar to most state plans—senior care facilities are in the last group of businesses to reopen (Phase III), after sporting venues, movie theaters, etc. States reach Phase III only when they have a downward trajectory of cases and symptoms, along with a robust testing program, and after they have maintained those standards in Phases I and II for at least 14 days each.

In other words, we can expect that restrictions on senior care facilities will be removed only when life is settled into the new normal. In addition, even if the restrictions are mostly lifted, facilities that have had positive cases should expect that their restrictions will continue until several days after the last symptoms of infection has cleared in the facility.

Aspects of screening, quarantining and social distancing will likely be required in all facilities going forward, even after visitation and communal activities resume. Visitation may continue to have certain limitations or requirements until the threat to our residents has been lessened or eliminated.  We will continue to monitor the situation and look for ways to safely allow families to see their loved ones and for our residents to enjoy many of the privileges we all enjoyed prior to coronavirus. Just as we diligently planned for implementing restrictions, we are diligently planning on how to safely ease them. Please be assured we are taking these measures to keep our community safe.

As always, please contact me with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Mike Marion

NO Residents or Staff with COVID-19

April 22, 2020

Dear Residents and Family Members:

First of all, we at Sea Cliff Assisted Living want to extend our heartfelt thanks to each of you for your support and understanding during this challenging time. Your cooperation is key in allowing our team to focus our efforts on keeping your loved ones safe and comfortable. We are truly all in this together.

We would like to update you on how things are going at Sea Cliff Assisted Living as it relates to COVID-19.

We are happy to report, we continue to have NO residents or staff with a positive diagnosis of COVID-19, or showing signs or symptoms of illness.

I understand that there has been some confusion between our assisted living facility with the skilled nursing facility, Sea Cliff Healthcare Center, that shares our campus.  We are aware that the skilled nursing facility has had at least one patient with a positive COVID-19 test finding.

We want you all to be aware of the efforts we have made to prevent any transmission of the virus from the skilled nursing facility to our assisted living facility:

  • We have posted signs on the connecting doors to discourage any of our staff or residents from entering the skilled facility.
  • We have limited all exits and entrances for our residents, staff and visitors to the assisted living front door. This also allows us to enforce the restricted visitation procedures we have had in place since March 13 and to assess all staff and others that enter our building to be assessed for signs and symptoms of COVID-19 and take their temperatures.
  • We have ceased all use of the skilled nursing facility’s activities rooms. All activities that we conduct for our residents include CDC and local health department social distancing recommendations.  We continue to have no outside activities.
  • We do continue to use the Skilled Nursing Facility’s dishwashing equipment to enable us to properly wash larger pots and pans and our dishes. However, our dishwashers wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) while engaged in this activity.  They wash all of our dishes separately from the skilled nursing facility dishes and at a designated time away from the skilled nursing facility staff and at temperature levels outlined by food safety protocols.  We are using more disposable dishes to further limit any exposure of our residents.
  • We have eliminated any shared staff between the skilled nursing facility and the assisted living facility.
  • Any resident who moves to the skilled nursing facility for services (or goes off-site to any other medical provider) and returns to our facility will be placed on a 14-day quarantine to be closely observed for and signs or symptoms relating to COVID-19 and prevent their exposure to other residents during this time.

We continue to have the daily call with our sister properties that we spoke about in our late March communication where we share updates from the CDC, CMS, local health department and other experts as well as speak to any PPE, staffing or other supply needs.

We continue our daily observation of residents for signs/symptoms during designated med passes, and taking temperatures that we began back in March.  As always, we will notify residents’ primary health care providers and designated family members of any changes in their loved one’s condition, whether potentially related to COVID-19 or not.

We continue to disinfect door knobs, hand rails, keypads…all touchable surfaces.

We have been working hard to check in with our residents during this time to ensure these changes and isolation are not adversely impacting our residents, but please continue to share with us if you or your loved one has feelings of depression, anxiety or uncertainty.

As always, please reach out with questions, concerns, or requests for assistance.  We will continue to keep you updated if any big changes occur or as additional information becomes available.

Sincerely,

Mike Marion

Information Regarding Visitation

Dear Residents, Family and Friends:

On March 14, 2020, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services advised of a nationwide restriction on visitation for certain health facilities, due to the coronavirus. Though these restrictions were drafted for skilled nursing facilities, they address risks similar to those posed to other senior living communities. CMS has directed that only health care workers or end-of life visitors be allowed to visit the community during this time. Until further notice, we will follow this direction, and will not permit non-essential visitors. We continue to encourage virtual visitation by phone, FaceTime, Skype, etc. It is important for you to remain connected with your loved one, and we will be happy to work with you to accomplish this in the absence of an in-person visit.
